ABOUT ABOUT

Mama's Girls Caregiving is Real is a heartfelt and enlightening urban stage play that follows the lives of five sisters as they navigate the challenges of caregiving for their aging mother.

With a new storyline and a cast of vibrant characters, this play sheds light on the realities of caregiving and emphasizes the importance of support and guidance from invaluable resources like AARP.

The play opens with the introduction of the five sisters: Ruthie Mae, the responsible and organized eldest sister; Bryana, the ambitious and career-oriented sister; Paulette, the compassionate and nurturing middle sister; Ke-Ke, the free-spirited and artistic sister; and Baby Girl, the youngest sister who is still searching for her path in life.

Each sister brings a unique perspective and set of circumstances to the table. As the story unfolds, viewers witness the sisters' relentless efforts to care for their aging mother, Even, while juggling their own demanding lives.

The play delves into the complexities of caregiving, highlighting the emotional toll it takes on each sister and the strain it puts on their relationships. Mama's Girls showcases the sisters' dedication, love, and sacrifices, while also addressing the challenges they face when trying to balance their own health issues.

As the sister's journey through their caregiving roles, they confront personal health challenges that further intensify the pressure they face. Ruthie Mae is battling a chronic illness, Paulette struggles with mental health issues, and Bryana experiences burnout from putting her own needs last.

These subplots highlight the impact that caregiving can have on the caregivers themselves, emphasizing the need for self-care and proper support. The climax of the play occurs when the sisters reach a breaking point, overwhelmed by the weight of their responsibilities. But with the help of AARP's resources and the love and support they find within each other, they come to realize the importance of self-care and seeking assistance.

United, they develop a plan to share the caregiving responsibilities more effectively, ensuring their mother receives the best care possible while also tending to their own well-being.

Mama's Girls Caregiving is Real combines poignant moments, lighthearted humor, and thought-provoking themes to entertain and inform viewers about the realities of caregiving. It serves as a reminder of the immense value of organizations like AARP in providing guidance, resources, and support to caregivers, empowering them to navigate their roles with strength, resilience, and compassion.
